About us

At Broad Oak Allotments, our growing community is putting down roots in more ways than one. In June 2024 we began creating a special Coronation Orchard, supported by The Coronation Living Heritage Fund, to honour King Charles III with a collection of Sussex and Kent fruit trees planted along our perimeter so everyone can share in the harvest.

Our orchard celebrates local heritage at a time when more than half of traditional orchards have disappeared since the 1950s despite over 2,000 apple varieties being suitable for Sussex alone.

Last October, on the Saturday closest to National Apple Day (21st October), we gathered in glorious sunshine to dedicate the orchard and unveil a beautiful plaque crafted by the Bexhill Men's Shed from reclaimed church pew wood and treasured old tools.

The plaque was officially unveiled by Councillor Conner Winter, with the support of Bexhill Town Council, who also funded our fantastic off-grid composting toilet - a sustainable, waterless system that turns waste into usable compost and allows plot holders to enjoy longer, sunnier days on site. Apple Day also marked its official opening by Town Clerk Joey Daeva, a true celebration of how far our allotments have come.

With regular community maintenance mornings, strong local links, and a shared passion for growing sustainably, Broad Oak Allotments is more than a place to garden - it is a place to belong. Come and see what’s blossoming; we’d love you to be part of our story. You can learn more about this by clicking below 🌱🍎

Volunteering sessions

Volunteering for just two hours a year helps keep out allotment site running smoothly and looking its best for everyone, which is why it is part of the tenancy agreement all plot holders sign. It is a great way to give back to the community, meet fellow plot holders, and take pride in the space we all share.

Whether you prefer working independently or as part of a group, there is plenty to get involved in. From general maintenance, to de-weeding communal areas, to providing a helping hand on community days.

Every little contribution makes a real difference.

Maintenance group

Here at Broad Oak Park Allotments we are lucky to have an amazing group of plot holders who come together to form our maintenance team, helping to keep the site looking its best. It is a relaxed, informal group where you can lend a hand and make a real different to our allotment community. Whether you are a seasoned pro or just keen to get involved, you will be very welcome.
